First Town The Township A Central Place Township |
Development of the First Town When the Hundred of Mannanarie was surveyed, it was one of the few such agricultural areas in which a Government township was not included. During the first few years of closer settlement, the nucleus of a township appeared to have taken form in the south-eastern area of the Hundred. The primitive Methodists built their church on section 186 in 1874, Mrs William Morgan conducted her private school on the same site and a general store was operated on section 170 where the first Post Office, with G.E. Swarm as storekeeper and post master, was opened in March 1874. < Previous - 1 2 3 - Next > |
