Steve Baynes and Dominic Clark have inspected the pitch on the cricket ground at Manananarie and declared it fit for play.

Cricket was last played on the ground at Mannanarie in the early 1970s so Steve and Dom has decided it’s time to dig out the bat and ball and have a game again. They are organising a limited overs game at the ground on Sunday, March the 11th.

Teams will include people who played for Mannanarie on its home ground, played for Mannanarie or played on the ground for other clubs. It is also planned to have a game for junior players. People interested in playing are encouraged to contact the organisers.

“Many people don’t realise that there is a cricket pitch here – in fact there are two” said Steve. “We are using the newer pitch for this game and saving the second for a test”.

“The field is in top order” added Dom. “It is nice and green with a good covering of lucerne. After it is reaped, a mob of 4-legged mowers will be shifted onto the field to trim it up and the extra fertiliser will bring it up well”.

The cricket ground is on the land of Mannanarie Station, owned by Mr Floyd Brooks. The adjacent tennis courts and two remnant goal posts from its football days are the most obvious features of the ground.

The Jamestown Junior Cricket Development Association is being asked to cater for the day with a barbeque and soft drinks. A Community Support Grant has been obtained from the Community State Government Drought Response 2006 to provide shade and toilet facilities.

“We invite everyone to come and share in the rare experience of playing or watching a game of cricket at Mannanarie. It should be an enjoyable day out” says Steve.

People interested in playing can contact Steve Baynes on 0428 827 330    or Dom Clark on 0407 615 195.
